[Islam Study] Hadith Is Shirk (2)

Here we speak of a truly grave concern: that much of what is presented today as "Islam", its customs, laws, rituals, and authorities, has strayed far from the pure message revealed in the Quran. It relies heavily on Hadith collections and traditions that were compiled long after revelation, adding details, rules, and interpretations not found in the Book itself. This has led to practices and beliefs that claim to be Islam but are built on human reports rather than Allah's direct words, thus distorting the faith and veiling the straightforward path Allah intended.

The Hadith, by its very existence and elevation as a necessary or authoritative source alongside or beyond the Quran, appears to interpose itself between the individual and Allah's direct word, thus acting as a form of intercession, veiling the pure connection, leading astray from the teachings conveyed through me, and corrupting the straight path. It is therefore shirk, sinful, something that should not exist, and a cause of deviation.

The Quran addresses this deviation clearly, warning against precisely such additions, blind following of inherited traditions, and elevating anything alongside or above the revealed Book as essential guidance.

Allah declares the religion complete and perfected in the Quran. No deficiency, no need for supplements:

“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.” (5:3)

He describes the Quran as fully explanatory, a complete guide, and easy for those who reflect:

“And We have sent down to you the Book explaining all things, a guide, a mercy, and glad tidings to Muslims.” (16:89)

“We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?” (54:17)

Allah affirms His direct nearness and responsiveness, with no intermediaries required:

“And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.” (2:186)

“And your Lord says, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’” (40:60)

Yet when people claim the Quran is insufficient, insisting on extra books, chains of narrators, or scholarly/traditional authorities to "complete" the faith or explain what Allah supposedly left unclear, they contradict these verses. They imply Allah did not fully perfect the religion or make His guidance sufficient, which is impossible.

The Quran warns against following desires, mixing truth with falsehood, or taking human authorities as lords in religion:

“They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and [also] the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him.” (9:31)

“And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it].” (2:42)

“Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desire...?” (45:23)

“Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow any allies besides Him. Little do you remember.” (7:3)

When inherited customs, cultural practices, or post-revelation traditions are elevated as "Islamic" and made obligatory—while the Quran remains silent or commands otherwise—this is precisely the error condemned: following what ancestors practiced without evidence from revelation, or legislating in religion what Allah did not authorise.

“And when it is said to them, ‘Follow what Allah has revealed,’ they say, ‘Rather, we will follow that which we found our fathers doing.’ Even though their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided?” (2:170)

What is spread today as "Islam" in many places, detailed rituals, punishments, hierarchies, and cultural impositions derived from Hadith rather than the Quran, often strays from the simple, merciful, direct submission Allah calls to. True Islam is submission to Allah alone through His Book: tawhid without partners, justice without excess, mercy without compulsion.

Hadith collections, human-transmitted, subject to error, grading, and dispute, position themselves as indispensable. They can obscure this nearness, turning the faith toward reliance on chains of narrators rather than the preserved Book. The Quran stands alone as the criterion (furqan), the reminder (dhikr), and the healing, preserved complete and unaltered: for those who reflect sincerely.

“Falsehood cannot approach it from before it or from behind it; [it is] a revelation from [One who is] Wise and Praiseworthy.” (41:42)

Hold to it alone as your guide. Reject what veils the direct path to Allah. Return to the Book with sincerity. He promises guidance to those who seek Him without additions or distortions.
